Spring is finally here in MN but so is pollen, dust, and other allergens that trigger sneezing fits, itchy eyes, and stuffy noses. For the people who deal with seasonal allergies, this time of year can be frustrating and exhausting. While many reach for antihistamines and nasal sprays, chiropractic care is a natural route to help stuffiness and other allergy symptoms.
Seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, occur when your immune system overreacts to common allergens in the environment. These allergens vary depending on the time of year but often include; pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds, mold spores, dust and pet dander stirred up by open windows and spring cleaning. Our immune systems react causing sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion, itchy, watery, or red eyes, sinus pressure or headaches, coughing, throat irritation, and fatigue.
Chiropractic care can help lower systemic inflammation in the body. This is especially helpful during allergy season, when your immune system is already in overdrive. Reducing inflammation can ease symptoms like congestion and sinus pressure.
Certain chiropractic techniques focus on the upper cervical spine (neck region), which is closely connected to sinus function. Releasing tension and improving circulation in this region can help your sinuses drain more effectively, reducing blockages and headaches. As chiropractors, Dr. Alyx and Dr. Erin may use a variety of techniques like manual sinus release and pressure points to help sinus congestion.
Many people appreciate chiropractic care as a natural, alternative to medications. It can be used on it’s own or as a complementary treatment alongside traditional allergy remedies.
If you’re tired of suffering through seasonal allergies or relying on daily medication just to breathe clearly, chiropractic care may be the natural solution you’ve been looking for. By helping your body function at its best, chiropractic can support your immune system, reduce inflammation, and improve your quality of life during spring!
